About the event
Rita Hosking is an American award winning singer, songwriter, and guitarist known for her country-folk and Americana music. Based in Northern California, her music often features storytelling with a strong sense of place, exploring themes of working-class life, nature, and social issues. Hosking grew up in a rural area of Shasta County, California, with a deep appreciation for folk music. She is a descendant of Cornish miners who sang in the mines of Cornwall, England, and Grass Valley, California, an ancestry that heavily influences her music, particularly songs about miners and the working class. She began her career as a social science teacher before focusing on music full-time in the mid-2000s.
